Laura Jansen TEDx

In the media

One of our founders, Laura Jansen, recently held a TED Talk, explaining her journey that led her to co-found Movement On The Ground, and why she lived on Lesvos helping refugees for 2.5 years. It is truly an inspiring video, and we recommend everyone to watch at least once.

TED is a media organization and global community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. They, like us, passionately believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world.

Laura excelled at creating an atmosphere to raise awareness on the refugee crisis. In her talk, Laura describes how her life took a remarkable turn when she was confronted with the current migration crisis in her hometown of Amsterdam. Compelled to act, she became part of a team of concerned citizens caring for arriving refugees at the train station at night. Upon visiting the island of Lesvos at the height of the crisis, she co-founded Movement On The Ground, providing humanitarian support of all kinds.

Laura lived on Lesvos for 2.5 years, creating programs and implementing projects to support the needs of the refugee population. She now combines music and advocacy by using her public platform to engage her audience in debate and action.

While the entire video is a must-watch, there’s a piece of Laura's talk we especially want to share with you:

"I want to remember that the individual makes up the crowd, no matter how big the crowd. And I want to help restore dignity, to people who have lost it. Because dignity is the first step to healing, and there is a lot of healing that needs to be done."

With the help of Laura’s voice and platform, the individuals on Lesvos, who need to be healed and heard, are now getting the aid they need.
